Hello everybody,
Today it’s a bit different here, on my blog. Not just because this is the second article that I’m uploading this week, but it’s because I want to talk to you about something else.
I gave this article a lot of thought and in the end I said to myself: Hell! It’s my blog where I share my passions and interests. And listening to music is something I love to do. So why not?
The reason I’m “weird” about posting about music here is not because I’m ashamed of what I listen to, but it has do to with the fact that a beauty blog is usually associated with mainstream music (like Justin Bieber, Beyonce, Taylor Swift etc). If you like that kind of music, that’s fine – do what makes you happy. But it’s not for me. I like lots of genres of music, but if you make me choose two of them, I’d go with metal and jazz.

Azi e putin diferit aici, pe blog-ul. Nu doar pentru ca acesta este al doilea articol pe care l-am publicat in aceasta saptamana, dar si fiindca vreau sa vorbesc despre un subiect total diferit.
M-am gandit mult daca sa scriu sau nu acest articol, si in cele din urma mi-am spus: e blogul meu unde-mi impartasesc pasiunile si interesele mele. Si ador sa ascult muzica. Deci de ce nu?
Motivul pentru care sunt “ciudata” cand vine vorba de a posta ceva legat de muzica pe blog, nu este pentru ca mi-ar fi rusine cu ce ascult, ci pentru ca blog-urile de frumusete sunt de obicei asociate cu muzica mainstream (cum ar fi Justin Bieber, Beyonce , Taylor Swift etc). Daca-ti place acest gen de muzica, foarte bine – fa ce te face pe tine fericit. Dar nu e pentru mine. Imi plac o multime de genuri muzicale, dar daca m-ai pune sa aleg doua dintre ele, as zice metal si jazz.
That being said, on Thursday night I went to Arad to attend to first day of International Jazz Day Arad. This festival is at the third edition, but it’s the first time I went.
Last night there were two Romanian jazz bands: ARCUS TRIO (Facebook page) and JazzyBIT (Facebook page).
Acestea fiind spuse, joi noaptea noaptea am mers la Arad, pentru a vedea prima zi de International Jazz Day Arad. Acest festival este la a treia editie, insa este prima data cand merg.
Aseara, au concertat doua formatii de jazz din Romania: ARCUS TRIO (Facebook page) si JazzyBIT (Facebook page).
The first one, ARCUS TRIO, is from Bucharest and it has the following members: Adi Stoenescu (hammond), Marcel Moldovan (drums) and Alexandru Arcus (sax, efx).
This is how they describe themselves: “The music of ARCUS TRIO builds on traditional folk music of Romanian and Balcanic descent, sipped at times through R&B moods, other times HipHop filters, it breathes Prog-Rock and Post-Prog air and finishes them with an authentic, personal style. The result is a particular, original and not at all sedentary sound, a narrative about that realm where Funk, Prog-Rock and Urban-Jazz can truly meet.“
They also won the 1st Prize for Composition at Sibiu Jazz Contest 2015.
Prima dintre ele, ARCUS TRIO, este din Bucuresti si are urmatorii membri: Adi Stoenescu (hammond), Marcel Moldovan (tobe) si Alexandru Arcus (saxofon, efx).
Ce spun despre ei: “Muzica ARCUS TRIO se bazeaza pe muzica populara traditionala de origine romana si balcanica, uneori cu stari de R&B, alteori HipHop, respira Prog-Rock si aer post-prog si incheie cu un stil autentic, personal. Rezultatul este un sound special, original si deloc sedenta, o naratiune despre acel domeniu in care Funk, Prog-Rock and Urban-Jazz se pot intalni cu adevarat.”
De asemenea, trupa a castigat Premiul 1 pentru Compozitie in cadrul Sibiu Jazz Contest 2015.
Personal opinion:
As much as I like listening to music, it’s a bit hard for me to talk about it. I feel like I can’t find the right words to describe what I feel, but this time I’ll start with: I liked the band! I think they sound good and homogeneous together. You can feel the influences of other genres but it’s still jazz – just an “updated” one.

Cu tot ca imi place foarte mult sa ascult muzica, imi este greu sa vorbesc despre acest subiect. Am senzatia ca nu-mi pot gasi cuvintele potrivite pentru a descrie ceea ce simt, dar de data aceasta voi incepe cu: mi-a placut trupa! Cred ca suna bine si omogen impreuna. Simti influentele altor genuri muzicale, dar inca este jazz – doar un jazz “actualizat”.

The second band was JazzyBIT. They’re formed in Timisoara and they have the following members: Teodor Pop (piano, keyboards), Mihai Moldoveanu (bas) and Szabó Csongor-Zsolt (drums).
This is how they describe themselves: “JazzyBIT (born on February 2, 2012, Timișoara, Romania) is a trio, which offers an energetic combination of jazz and rock, scattered here and there with blues, latin and funk. Having won the Newcomer Award for 2013 awarded by the “Muzza” Foundation Bucharest, they independently released their first album “Touch the Sky” at the beginning of 2014, an album which reached number 9 in the controversial Romanian music top “Muzici și Faze”. They have played almost 100 concerts in Romania, but also in Hungary (Budapest Jazz Club and the famous A38), Austria and Italy, where they got to be finalists in the European Jazz Award competition of the Tuscia in Jazz festival. The band returns in 2016 with their second album “Horizon”, recorded at the famous “SuperSize Recording” studio in Budapest, and published at the EM Records label.”
Cea de a doua trupa a fost JazzyBIT. Sunt formati in Timisoara si au urmatorii membri: Teodor Pop (pian, clape), Mihai Moldoveanu (bas) si Szabó Csongor-Zsolt (tobe).
Asa se descriu ei: “JazzyBIT (n. 2 februarie 2012, Timișoara) este un trio format din Teodor Pop (pian, claviaturi), Mihai Moldoveanu (bas) și Szabó Csongor-Zsolt (tobe), ce oferă o combinație energică de jazz și rock, presărată cu blues, latin și funk. După ce câștigă Premiul pentru debut pe 2013 al Fundației Muzza din București, trupa lansează independent primul album “Touch the Sky” la începutul lui 2014, album ce ajunge pe locul 9 în controversatul top al muzicii românești “Muzici și Faze”. Urmează aproape 100 de concerte atât în țară, cât și în Ungaria (Budapest Jazz Club și A38), Austria sau Italia, unde JazzyBIT a ajuns în finala competiției European Jazz Award din cadrul festivalului Tuscia in Jazz. În 2016 trupa revine cu al doilea album “Horizon”, înregistrat la renumitul studio din Ungaria “SuperSize Recording” și publicat la casa de discuri EM Records.“
Personal opinion:
I don’t even remember when I first heard their music. Since they’re from Timisoara I had a lot of opportunities to see them perform. I listen to the first album so many times, home or at their concerts, I lost count. I can tell some of their songs, like Ocean Wave or Curaçao (listen on iTunes), from the first notes.
So I think it’s needless to say I like the band.
The second album, Horzion (iTunes), I think it’s even better than the first one. You can really see all the hard work and passion that went into it. Great job guys both on your album and your performance last night!

Nu-mi amintesc exact cand am auzit prima data muzica lor. Considerand ca sunt din Timisoara am avut o multime de ocazii sa-i vad live. Am pierdut numaratoarea de cate ori am ascultat primul album acasa sau la concertele lor. Unele melodii, precum Ocean Wave sau Curaçao (asculta pe iTunes), le stiu de la primele note.
Deci, cred ca nu mai e nevoie sa va spun ca-mi place trupa.
Al doilea album, Horizon (iTunes), cred ca e chiar mai bun decat primul. Poti observa lejer toata munca si pasiunea care au dus la acest rezultat. JazzyBIT ati facut o treaba grozava si pe album si aseara!
The festival is still ongoing. You can see on Friday (15 April) Peter Sarosi and Claudia Iuga and on Saturday (16 April) Sebastian Spanache Trio and Pankastic at Cinema Arta Arad on street Vasile Alecsandri nr. 2, Arad, Arad.
I didn’t see any problem with the organization. The bands started as scheduled. Also important: this festival has free admission! So you can’t miss it.

Festivalul este inca in curs de desfasurare. Ii puteti vedea vineri (15 aprilie) pe Peter Sarosi si Claudia Iuga, iar sambata (16 aprilie) pe Sebastian Spanache Trio si Pankastic la Cinema Arta Arad pe strada Vasile Alecsandri nr. 2, Arad, Arad.
Nu am observat nici o problema cu organizarea. Trupele au inceput asa cum au fost programate. De asemenea important de mentionat este faptul ca acest festival are intrare libera! Deci nu puteti lipsi.
Sper ca ti-a placut acest tip de articol sau de cel putin ti s-a parut interesant. Ne vedem saptamana viitoare!
